Common Interview Questions and Answers

Q: What can you tell us about this company?

A: It is very important to know everything about the company where you want a job, no matter what area of activity is has. You should research about the company history, what recent events took place regarding this business and what background does it have. Never go to an interview without this knowing.

Q: What are the reasons that make you want to work for the X company?

A: This question is dependant of the question above, the things you have learned in your research about the company should help you here to point the goals you may have in relation with this company and the career you want to follow. Say, as a conclusion which are the things that motivate you to become an employee here.

Q: Can you speak a bit about your person?

A: This is one of the most common interview question because it is so simple and it creates the circumstances for a good and long conversation between you and the interviewer. But, of course you don’t have to present your entire biography, just details like your education, past jobs and current state of your life are relevant. Don’t get into too much details.

Q: Which are the most important things that show the relevant experience that you have?

A: It is best to have much experience when you apply for an big job so you must expect to be asked about it. It is harder if you have a lot of experience but in a different area than the one you want to apply for now, in this case you can show the interviewer that your skills can match the ones required for the current job and can even be improved.

Q: What do you require to be motivated in your work?

A: Even if a normal answer would be money, and we all know it really is, moral and noble reasons like wanting to help other people or to contribute to the economy are the ones you will present to the interviewer. You can also say that you want to prove yourself that you are worthy and improve your skills.

Q: What are the hobbies that you have?
A:
This is also a common question interviewers may ask, no matter what hobbies you do have, you must remember these: to prove that you are creative, your hobbies have to be music or painting, for an active person the best hobbies are sports, analytical people play chess or other similar games, also if you ever had and enjoyed group activities means that you like working in a team instead of working as an individual. The real purpose of this questions is finding out if you have a good life after work, if you take the time to relax with different activities, employees who do it also give more potential at work and are highly productive.

Q: What is the biggest weakness that you have?

A: Don’t put your weaknesses to light, you don’t want to screw up the interview, transform one of your weaknesses into a something that puts you in advantage, for example you can say that you like very much working until late hours in the night to ensure the job is perfectly made.

Q: What is the other people’s perception about you, do you think they fear you or like you?

A: Usually you would say you don’t know, but you can say that fear is not good in any circumstance, including a workplace, because it doesn’t give any motivation to people as many are thinking. Fear is just discouraging them and makes hate grow in their hearts. You can say better that respect is what others show to you. You are not the friend of other workers because if you become their friend they will not be respectful when it comes to deadlines or getting the job well.

Q: What do you find interesting at our company?

A: This is one of the most important questions so you must answer in the proper way, you must be enthusiastic about the company, you must show that you are really interested in it, that it will help you enhance your qualities as a worker and don’t simply say that money is what you like because the interviewer or the employer will not think that you are serious about the job.

 

Q: What have you done for the purpose of extending your experience?

A: This is a question regarding any type of relevant activity that you had in your free time, anything from hobbies to classes you took and even home activities that helped you be aware of a good time management or self-management.

Q: How do you like best: working with other people or working individually?

A: The answer to this question should prove that you are flexible, that you have worked and you are able work in each of the two situations in the same way.

Q: What was the reason for leaving the last job you had?

A: The reason for asking this question is the interviewer’s interest in the problems you may have at your last work place, you can answer sincerely but if you didn’t really have any problems then you can say you had to relocate to another city it was a job with no advancement possibility, it was a temporary workplace or the company just closed itself because of financial problems. In case you had problems state the nature of these problems by pointing to what could you learn from this experience and what can be improved from the mistakes you made. If the ex-employer was guilty of something, don’t say this and don’t blame the guy.

Q: What was the most annoying aspect of people behavior on the last workplace?

A: Usually many people could get annoying and you become frustrated at work, but don’t share this list with the interviewer because he/she will think that you are a difficult person and working near you brings problems so what you should really do is say with calm after you gave some thought to it that you had a good relation with any coworker that you had around.

Q: Is there a good reason for us to hire you?

A: Don’t give straight and arrogant answers like: “You can hire me because I am the best for the job.”. The right thing to do is to show the employer a set of skills that you have and that are perfectly matching your future job at their company. But concentrate solely on your talents and not the other candidates, don’t mention them in your answers.

 

Q: What talents/skills do you have best?

A: This should be a simple answer since you studied about the company and the skills required for any particular job.

Q: If I could invite your co-workers from the last workplace what opinion would they have about you?

A: The interviewer wouldn’t do this anyway so forget about the bad opinions that some of your co-workers could have, remember the good words that some of them said about you being a workaholic or what good solutions you found for difficult tasks.

Q: Did you apply in another company also?

A: This questions brings the best opportunity for you to appear a if you would be so wanted by many companies but of course you don’t have to show that you are stressed so much about it, you can say about some of the companies that want you but don’t give any detailed information, the interviewer will appreciate if you are looking seriously for a good position.

Q: How can you manage working under stress?

A: No matter what answer you will give to this, be sure that every time you bring to light only the positive aspects, you can say that you even like to work under stress or pressure because this is motivating you and you can meet the deadlines.

Q: What goals do you expect to achieve in your career?

A: This question is meant to discover if your goals are the same or compatible with the goals of the company. The best way to answer is to reveal your ambitions and why you want to perfect yourself while achieving your goals, also be very specific about this.

Q: What is the salary that you would require in order to be pleased?

A: Whatever you do try to avoid this question, avoid a direct answer and give the first initiative to the interviewer. Don’t mention any sum, just answer with another question like: “What salaries do you practice here?” But in order to be able to negotiate the salary they offer if you are not content you must make a good research on the internet over the salaries that are currently given for this profession.

Q: Are you able to consider the interests of the company over you own interests?

A: This is another trick question because they make you choose between family life and the corporate life, if you answer with no, they won’t like you and if your answer is yes you will look like a person who has no heart. The answer should be anyway yes , you have to make this sacrifice to say it even if you don’t agree with it, after all you want this job so why give it a kick now.

Q: Do you agree with team work?

A: There is only one answer to this: yes. It is a must in any corporation, where nobody really works alone, but you can specify a job that you will like the most, maybe a leadership job…

Q: What do you think is the greatest strong point that you have?

A: This is the best opportunity to prove yourself and to reveal your true skills, to explain why you are such a good worker focusing on the working under stress quality, great problem solving employee and the good detail oriented motivator that you are. Don’t explain how good you are at computer games or at other activities, the interviewer is only interested in thing related to work.

Q: Talk about one of your ideas that was successful in practice.

A: Don’t talk here about your great ideas that were not put in practice, it is useless if these ideas are found only on paper, focus on the practice level. Also if one of your ideas was put in practice but the company has suffered because of it, that is definitely not a great idea so never mention it. Mention those who brought success.

Q: What is the thing that motivates you the most: satisfaction or money?

A: As many of the questions from an interview this question is also not really fair, the best would be to find a workplace that brings both things in an equal amount. This is possible but rare, so money is what motivates you to work, satisfaction comes on the way later, but you will not say this to the employer.

Q: Was there a worker that you couldn’t work with in your previous jobs?

A: Let’s face it: everyone is good as a work partner if they are not racists, killers or thieves or otherwise you will be the problem because you make the discriminations.

Q: Did you have problems with your bosses in the past?

A: This is a key question, one of the most common and tricky, your answer determines if they hire you are not, they don’t want an employee who seeks argue in everything, especially when it comes to the boss, so be diplomatic and say you don’t remember or that you haven’t any problems with bosses.

Q: I think I have forgotten to ask something.

A: Use this as an opportunity to put accent on your skills and good traits. Try to convince the interviewer why you want this job.

Q: Any questions that you would like to ask me?

A: You could ask about the benefits of the company but make sure you don’t do it like you haven’t researched anything about the company, or you could ask about when you will be able to start working.
